The Journal To Healing Challenge is Back!
Back in Spoken Black Girl's personal blog days, founder and Editor-in-Chief, Rowana Abbensetts, held the first ever Journal to Healing Challenge. Now, the challenge is back and we're digging even deeper into our minds and souls for honest answers about healing through the art of journaling.
Here are some lessons we've learned since the last journaling challenge:
Learn how to prioritize yourself, your family, your love life, and your career. It can be tricky to find a balance, but don't give up, show up! Show up for your family and friends. Show up for work, even when you'd rather be binge-watching Netflix. And most importantly, show up for yourself!
Acknowledge your worth. Until you love the woman in the mirror, you'll have a hard time convincing others of her worth. Understand that you are a powerful being. You are whole. You are complete. And you are worthy. Don't accept anything less.
Don't be afraid to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is the key to meaningful relationships. How can anyone love you the way you need to be loved if you never let them see the real you? Be more than an image or a shadow; be your whole self.
Boundaries exist! Your needs and preferences are important and just as worthy of respect as anyone else's. Be clear and open with the people in your life about your personal boundaries. Those who love you and have your best interest at heart will respect your wishes.
Be a source of positive energy. Life can be hectic. Sometimes, it's easier to be negative, skeptical, and cold in our interactions with others. Switch it up! Offer a smile, a compliment or a helping hand to brighten the world around you. Remember, you attract the same energy you put out.
Just let it flow. Every day there's a new planner or app that promises to make our lives go smoothly, but life rarely goes according to plan. For many of life's challenges, no amount of planning can prepare you. Opportunities tend to pop up when you least expect them. Let go of expectations and know that everything that is meant to be will be.
Address your needs and get in touch with your body. Make sure you're giving your body everything it needs to thrive. This can mean anything from incorporating exercise into your weekly routine to making healthier food choices or simply knowing when to rest.
Seek out the light you want to become. Find friends who inspire you and lift you up! Too often in life, we find ourselves disconnected from people who make us feel loved and appreciated. If you're the person who is always shining your light on others and helping loved ones through difficult times, consider allowing others to do the same for you.
Listen. No, really listen. Shut off the judgmental chatter in your brain. Curb your desire to be right all of the time or jump to quick solutions. Simply hear the people in your life. It can be healing for both parties.
